THE OCEAN TO RELEASE 10TH STUDIO ALBUM "HOLOCENE" ON MAY 19

Following a world tour, The Ocean returns with Holocene, an album that concludes their paleontology-inspired series and takes a step towards electronic music while maintaining their signature heavy sound. The album opens with the synth-driven track "Preboreal," setting the tone for the entire record. Holocene addresses the current epoch in which humanity has drastically shaped the planet.

For the first time, the album is entirely based on synth ideas from Peter Voigtmann, leading to a fresh, exciting musical direction. The mix, handled by Karl Daniel Lidén, offers a clear, powerful sound that balances electronics with orchestral grandeur.

Holocene delves into themes like alienation, the quest for eternal youth, and social critique, inspired by Guy Debord. The album wraps up the series, tackling modern issues like fear and the breakdown of values. After 20 years, The Ocean continues to be a powerful force in the music world.

Spurv are Norway’s answer to “who can write the best post-rock album of the year?” question. Their latest album “Brefjære“ is simply too good for words, a masterclass in writing a post-rock epic via blissful harmonies, sprawling crescendos, and emotionally gripping climaxes. The album is completed by its ambitious narration, a mythic conversation between animal and natural spirits on the passage of time and the relationship between man and nature, all gorgeously voiced by a choir and two soloists.

It’s on this narration that “Brefjære“ is built on and then solidly branches out giving voice (and a loud one at that), to overarching themes of devastation and hope, sorrow and joy. Musically, this is gracefully orchestrated via gripping and captivating compositions resting on Spurv’s already sound post-rock foundations. For fans of Godspeed You!
