Brood as a remembrance of the dead

Reuse hard bread. Crush it until it turns to dust and give it a new life. This gesture echoes the Spanish Civil War. What if striking the bread could awaken the bodies that disappeared and were thrown into mass graves?

Luna Luz Sanchez, a descendant of Spanish immigrants, explores the memory of her ancestors through cooking. How can we understand a memory that has been silenced by a governmental omerta? How can we awaken what has been buried?

Recuerdos de pan invites us to hammer the bread together, then cook it as a ritualized act of
remembrance.
