De Belgische pianiste en producer maya dhondt brengt met ‘wow, x’ haar solo debuutplaat uit onder haar eigen naam. Laverend tussen bedroom glitch-pop en contemporary piano laat ze op ‘wow, x’ geluiden van bevreemdende schoonheid horen. De plaat verschijnt op 12 september op vinyl en alle digitale platformen via VIERNULVIER Records
De eerste single ‘desire’ is een gemuteerde synthpop-track die onder de huid kruipt. De song gaat over het verlangen naar iets dat je (nog) niet kent. Misschien wel de geur van vochtige aarde die tegelijk aangenaam, maar ook bevreemdend kan zijn? De single is nu te beluisteren op alle streaming platformen en komt samen met een video van Sakis Brönnimann.
Op zaterdag 5 oktober staat een eerste release show gepland in de Koer, Gent. Meer shows worden binnenkort aangekondigd.

A postmodern cramp, that's how you could describe the music of pianist and producer maya dhondt. Her music is an intuitive journey of discovery that holds the possibility of being several things at once. And to become.
On her first solo debut album under her own name, "wow, x," she presents 10 diverse tracks in which she creates equally idiosyncratic worlds of sound. To do so, she takes the liberty to experiment endlessly with voice, piano and an amalgam of distorted lo-fi electronic sounds with an open mind. The result is sometimes synthetic and weird, sometimes compellingly beautiful, but always haunting. These intelligently constructed productions are linked by a penchant for alienating beauty: like a warm but wet cave where it is nevertheless pleasantly home. Her original sound moves on a sound spectrum reminiscent of contemporary artists such as Julia Holter, Coco Rosie, Astrid Sonne, claire rousay, Kira Kira or Carla Dal Forno.
