Can we trust our perception? Can anything ever be known for certain? And how does knowledge relate to wisdom?

For years, we have been trying to unravel and predict reality. Once upon a time, we found answers in myths and magical practices, since a few centuries we have turned to scientific research. In his book ‘Wijsheid’, Paul Verhaeghe interprets our complex relationship to reality. He explains the distinction between knowledge, which has made our lives easier, and wisdom, which helps us with existential questions. Against that background looms the ever-present danger of belief in absolute truth. On that altar, both knowledge and wisdom are sacrificed, with consequences that are incalculable.

After a short introduction by Bieke Purnelle, Paul Verhaeghe will be interviewed by journalist Jelle Van Riet. Artist Sofie Muller also joins in. Her sculpture from the internationally awarded series ‘The Clean Room’ graces the cover of ‘Wisdom’. Afterwards, the author will sign his books at the book stand of bookshop Paard van Troje
