Soil Sundays is an initiative by Back2SoilBasics. Originating in and around Brussels, the collective brings together people of color and marginalized communities to create space for permaculture and ecology. Connection to the land is seen as a form of resistance: a way to break through displacement, reclaim access to nature, and practice collective care. This Soil Sunday takes shape in collaboration with Crip Earth (Re)Generation, an artistic research project at KASK & Conservatorium that focuses on embodied knowledge of (societal) repair that emerges at the intersection of disability/illness, artistic practice and our relationship to the land.

For this Soil Sunday, we invite two guests from the United Kingdom to share their knowledge on food justice, disability and access to land with us: Dee Woods & Claire Ratinon.

This Soil Sunday, we will engage in conversation with Dee & Claire and share a meal together. In the afternoon, we will work in small groups on the field with the (flower) farmers of weder, Aardig Aards and Fleur Couleur.

Program

  • 11:00 - 13:00: Community talk with Dee Woods & Claire Ratinon
  • 13:00 - 14:30: Vegan lunch
  • 14:30 - 17:00: Fieldwork

Accessibility

Soil Sunday takes place at weder CSA flower farm, Beekstraat 1, 9030 Mariakerke. Paths at weder are surfaced with wood chips. There is parking next to the location of the talk as well as a wheelchair-accessible toilet. The fieldwork activities are seasonal and accessible. In case of bad weather, activities will be adapted. Please bring rain gear. If you need support getting to weder, contact benoit@dekoer.be for pick-up/drop-off.

For Whom?

Soil Sundays are community gatherings that primarily aim to bring together people of color and marginalized communities around food justice. The aim of this day is to build community among farmers, people of color, and people with experiences of disability and/or chronic illness. Allies are welcome.
