Joyful opening of the festival!

We meet in the HUB for an exchange about process-oriented art practices in relation to the environment and its inhabitants. Often, these artists work in co-creation. Their work sometimes remains invisible and on the margins, but has a significant local impact. Openbare werken brings together a number of these practices. We present the publication ‘10 years STADSATELIER’ from VIERNULVIER and the Art & Zwalm publication ‘about/with/in/by water’, a collaboration between manoeuvre, nadine vzw, and BOEM vzw. Afterwards, we will discuss challenges and obstacles, as well as the role of institutions and governments in supporting these artistic practices in the city and beyond.

Openbare werken is organized by Tot in de Stad!. This is a collaboration between VIERNULVIER, de Koer, Kunsthal Gent, Manoeuvre, CAMPUSatelier, Jong Gewei, KASK & Conservatorium School of Arts, and LUCA School of Arts. Together, they support artistic practices that engage in dialogue with residents and the environment, working bottom-up from what already exists and questioning the city in all its complexity.
