UNDER THE UNDER OF THE WOOD
led by Chiara Bersani
for people with motor disabilities
“I was a disabled child. I was placed at a point in space, left there for a long time and then I learnt that point by heart. I didn't orient myself in the paths but I knew perfectly well the places of rest, quiet, refreshment.”
— Chiara Bersani
Within the framework of the SOTTOBOSCO project, the artist and choreographer Chiara Bersani, Lemmo, musician and sound researcher, Elena Sgarbossa, dancer and choreographer, and Simone Chiacchiararelli, Chiara Bersani's assistant, lead a workshop aimed at persons with motor disabilities of different age groups who may cross the performance in the last 5/10 minutes..
Each workshop day, (usually 3), includes 3 hours of work, during which Chiara Bersani's team shares research, reflections and practices developed during her new work. Participants are invited to explore with Chiara, Lemmo and Elena, the relationship between movement, sound and space, starting from the possibilities and will of each body.
The premise of the workshop is: A group of children with disabilities gets lost in the woods. Or perhaps they have been abandoned. What could happen? What language will they speak? And whoever finds them by chance or desire, how should he/she approach them? He/She can do it? Will He/She be able to ask for permission?
Conceived as an integral part of the show Sottobosco (Undergrowth), the workshop follows Chiara Bersani's desire to meet in the space of the stage, children and adults with motor disabilities to answer the question together: what is the relationship of a body with disabilities with 'nature'? What space can we imagine and thus create thanks to the collective presence of our bodies? What new and accessible undergrowth can be built by our gestures? What mysterious and silent language allows us to communicate, listen and understand each other in this space?
