A season of Encounters

Exactly 50 years ago, Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky shocked Cannes festival with the premiere of his film "The Holy Mountain"; a psychedelic slice of surrealism that became a true cult classic over the years. This macabre masterpiece can count illustrious names such as Peter Gabriel, Erykah Badu, Marina Abramovic, David Lynch and Nicolas Winding Refn among its fans.

Als on that list: Belgian saxophonist, composer and producer Mattias De Craene. He composed a brand new soundtrack to the film for Videodrome. As icing on the birthday cake, he will perform it live in De Vooruit's Theaterzaal with the brand new remastered 4K version of the film on the big screen!

The duo combines Vanneste’s melodic expression with De Bock’s more structured, collage-like style into a unique harmony reminiscent of artists like Massive Attack, Tricky, Lamb, and Mark Lanegan.

Their debut album Only Fighters Left Behind was met with critical acclaim. Currently, DRIFTWD is in the final stages of producing their second full-length album, set for release in September/October 2024. With the first single Bonfire, the band makes it clear that they won’t be holding back. The song, written shortly after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, hits like a sledgehammer.

Samen met multi-instrumentalist Dijf Sanders bracht Tsar B een eigenzinnige hommage aan componist Angelo Badalamenti en zijn legendarische ‘Twin Peaks’-soundtrack, tijdens VIDEODROOM 2023. De avond was meteen uitverkocht, dus hernemen we deze performance in de Minardschouwburg.

OVER TWIN PEAKS

Een creepy sfeer, bizarre personages, een dijk van een soundtrack en damn good coffee: de veelvuldig bekroonde, experimentele serie ‘Twin Peaks’ was een hit zodra het in 1990 op het scherm kwam. Kijkers werden meteen fan door de unieke combinatie van horror en humor die bedenkers David Lynch en Mark Frost in de reeks wisten te leggen. Het verhaal gaat zelfs dat Paul McCartney, die op het verjaardagsfeest van The Queen op audiëntie werd ontvangen, plots van Hare Majesteit te horen kreeg: “Excuseer, ik kan niet langer blijven, want ‘Twin Peaks’ gaat beginnen."

schntzl is a Belgian duo making 'hypervisual' music, provocative and sweet at the same time. Their music can be heard as pop music from a parallel universe, a breakdown of established values but with a penchant for kitsch. Accompanied by their percussion, samplers, keyboards and drums, they function like a flawless orchestra of two people dancing and spinning around each other.

The opening of Club Wintercircus is also the christening of our immersive sound system. Invited by the European Jazz Conference, schntzl is putting together a brand-new and unique set that revolves entirely around the 360° experience. This will be the start of a journey that will culminate in a new album as well (to be released in 2025).

The Undertones, that's the story of five friends who decided to learn the principles of rock and roll in 1976 in Derry, Northern Ireland. The O'Neill brothers' melodies and guitar riffs, influenced by the garage rock of the 1960s and the glam rock of the 1970s, hit the nail on the head and helped them break through with the legendary "Teenage Kicks. 

Over the next four years, they released other top songs such as "Get Over You," "Here Comes The Summer," "Jimmy Jimmy," "You've Got My Number (Why Don't You Use It!)," "My Perfect Cousin" and "It's Going To Happen! During the same period, they recorded four critically acclaimed albums, toured the United States with The Clash and did a series of tours of their own.
