Carlo

Stage management

This is Carlo, one of our sound technicians since September '23. He ended up in Ghent from Cape Town via Budapest! After working as a freelancer during the STAKE concert and the performance 'Mein Gent', he started working full-time with us.

"Everyone in my team is very helpful. As a freelancer, I'm used to doing everything alone, so now I'm learning to navigate my way in a large team and to rely on the expertise of my colleagues."

Carlo enjoys seeing people enjoy themselves during performances and concerts.

"As a technician, I work with about 50 people weekly. It's quite exhausting, both physically and mentally, but my job gives me a lot of satisfaction. I'm very proud of my work, our building, and the organization. It's very nice to learn more and more about the history of De Vooruit and what the monument means to people."

Carlo enjoys working at VIERNULVIER and faces new challenges every week.

"Actually, my entire career experience comes together at VIERNULVIER. But one of the most important skills in my work is being able to deal with people. You have to be goal-oriented, direct, and friendly, while also knowing what you're doing because you have to constantly solve problems. If you think something won't work, you have to be honest about it. The artists who come here also rely on our expertise to advise them."

Fun fact: In his free time, Carlo plays atmospheric lo-fi music with his band and practices capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art dance.
