Dries
Stage management
He started here as a freelancer, but has now been a regular within team stage technology for a year and a half.
"After my studies, I worked as a freelancer for ten years, where I gained a lot of knowledge. After a while, I got tired of driving from one place to another so often. As a permanent employee at VIERNULVIER, my schedule and hours are more manageable and it is easier to combine with my private life.
I am an all-round technician, specialising in sound. I basically help with everything, but when it comes to operating something, it's sound."
For Dries, it is important in his job that there is a lot of diversity of activities. Like once building up a theatre, taking it down, a resident you have to help,...
"I really enjoy coming into contact with many different types of people: from artists and actors to people from the business world who are organising an event, for example. The most challenging thing about my job is that my ambition is to become a stage manager one day. That's the person who arranges everything. If there is an event, the artist/company itself brings technicians. They don't know the house and so there is a stage manager who arranges everything. Before the artist comes here, we receive a technical sheet with all the info on what they need or don't need. We discuss together what can or cannot be done. Then we - the in-house technicians - build everything up with the technicians the artist brings themselves and agree on all other practical matters. Usually, we don't start earlier than 9 o'clock, unless the show goes on in the afternoon."
One of Dries' best memories at VIERNULVIER is the annual staff outing: Tsjoepdag.
"I had been working at VIERNULVIER for about 10 months then and already knew many faces, but I had not chatted with many people outside my team. On Tsjoepdag, everyone is not in work mode and you strike up a conversation quicker."
Dries's favourite workplace is the Theatre Hall because he thinks it is the most beautiful room and there is a lot of space. Everything you need is there. He can often be found in the VIERNULVIER Café, also one of his favourite spots.
