Jasmijn
Horeca
Jasmijn lived all her life in Amsterdam, where she studied art history. Until she moved to Ghent for an internship at the Design Museum and promptly fell in love with our city. She decided to move and work in the hospitality industry here - a good way to meet new people.
The very day after her application to the VIERNULVIER Café, she was allowed to start.
"I can't take it well when people say, "VIERNULVIER, that's my family!", but actually it really is. I met my friends, friends of friends and my sweetheart here. So the VIERNULVIER Café is my second living room, another terrible term."
Five years later, Jasmijn is still working in the hospitality industry, which she herself did not expect. "It was more of a pragmatic decision, but after a few days I realised how much I liked it." She prefers to be behind the sandwich counter, no matter how stressful it is sometimes. "The advantage is that you don't take that pressure home with you. I don't lie awake because of my work, except when I think I forgot to turn off the croque machine."
Besides her work in the café, Jasmijn enjoys reading and cooking, going to the café with friends, or going to performances and concerts - often at De Vooruit.
"When I recently worked here, I actually did that far too little, but now I go more and more often. You really get the chance to discover new things here, things that are out of your comfort zone. You still have your whole life to spend in the couch watching Netflix!"
