Lisette Ma Neza

Lisette Ma Neza (b. 1997) is a slam poet and musician. Originally from the Netherlands, she now lives in Brussels, where she studies film. In 2017, she was the first Dutch speaker, the first woman and the first poet of colour to win the Belgian Poetry Slam Championship. Together with Neil Akenzua, she forms a duo. Their performances balance between painfully direct and infatuated naivety, often grabbing the audience by the throat.

Her artistic practice is a constant attempt to translate herself and others. She explores the lives and feelings of displaced people, survivors of great violence, Africans in Europe, diasporas, women... This research culminates in poetic essays, word art, film and theatre.
