Marah Haj Hussein

Marah Haj Hussein (born 1998) is a dancer, actress and creator from Kofor Yassif in occupied Palestine. She currently lives in Antwerp, where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Dance from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in 2021. In June 2023, she completed her Masters in Drama at KASK in Ghent. By merging these two disciplines, Marah challenges the demarcation that separates text from movement, while at the same time looking for possible ways to allow both into the performative space. 

In her work, Marah examines the concept and definition of mother tongue while exploring the power dynamics between languages. Marah won the Roel Verniers Prize of The Theatre Festival 2023.

In addition to her own work, Marah has collaborated with choreographers and theatre makers such as Alain Platel & Berengere Bodin, Kris Verdonck, Tuur Marinus and Need Company. She is currently participating in Badke (remix) by Amir Sabra &Atta Khattab/ laGeste, Persians by Chokri ben Chikha/ Action Zoo Humain, and Colors by Frank Dierens & Jitse Huysmans/ Kopergietery.
