Kitchen staff

This is Wissam, one of the chefs at the VIERNULVIER Café!

 

Before he started here a year ago, he worked in De Stroom, the staff restaurant of the City of Ghent. One of the cooks there knew Tom, who is responsible for kitchen coordination at VIERNULVIER. Wissam started here temporarily, but has since become a permanent member of the kitchen team.

"I got my passion for cooking from my father, who is also a cook. Ever since I was little, I was in the kitchen with him. I myself have been working as a cook for 12 years. First in Lebanon, where I was born, later near Dubai and then two years in Canada."

"I like working at VIERNULVIER because the colleagues are very nice and there is a positive atmosphere. I was also very excited to start working here because it is a challenge to cook vegetarian food if you are not a vegetarian yourself. It is not easy to get the flavours right just with vegetables. We also try to work with organic, fresh and local produce as much as possible."

For the daily dish in our VIERNULVIER Café, the chefs alternate.
"There is a lot of creativity involved in the dish of the day: sometimes we just order the vegetables and decide on the spur of the moment what to make."

Wissam is a morning person. He likes to start a bit earlier so that he can fully concentrate for an hour before his colleagues arrive. In summer, you can sometimes find him on the VIERNULVIER Terrace, his favourite spot in De Vooruit.
