Year of no Light

It is with extreme pleasure that we welcome Year Of No Light back to the fold, this time for an exclusive “Ausserwelt” headline show! That’s right, to celebrate 20 years of dunk!festival, the French doom-post-metal titans will perform their iconic album Ausserwelt in full, for your auditory delectation. 

Year of no Light have been forerunners of Europe’s post-rock scene for nearly two decades now, spearheading the genre and bringing out of the darkness. Although they themselves continue to inhabit the darkest regions of these sonicscapes, never compromising on their suffocating and bludgeoning post-doom sonic weaves, Year Of No Light greatly contributed to the rise first, and growth second of a genre that is now finally garnering the attention it truly deserves. Year of No Light sound is stoically founded on the pillars of doom and sludge metal, with roaring distorted guitars and distended tempos, but a clear and distinct sonic identity. The band regularly dabbled in psychedelic rock, shoegaze and post-grunge, always with somber character, culminating in the crushing Ausserwelt, a sonic statement of modern post- music. These sound constructions mix post-rock blissful catharsis with post-metal and drone atmospherics and even black metal aggression to deliver blow after blow of devastating riffs. The results are seriously trance-inducing. 

In one word? Colossal. The band regularly features two drums on set, as well as up to 9 members on stage, for a live performance of truly epic proportions. We’re still in awe from the French performance at dunk!festival 2022 and knew we wanted to have them back for a special Ausserwelt set. This idea floated around a few times but we wanted to make sure we found the right spot for them and what moment is more fitting than our 20th birthday? With its richly decorated Art Nouveau interiors and and golden leaf ornate columns, VIERNULVIER will provide the perfect backdrop for this iconic show. We just hope there’ll still be a Concertzaal standing after the show.
