In the autumn of 2024, VIERNULVIER commited to co-organise the ‘Eye on Palestine’ Festival, which took place at various locations in Ghent in collaboration with various civil society and artistic partners.

During the festival, an artwork was created by Brussels-based graphic designer Kinda Ghannoum. She collaborated with the Ghent print studio Topo Copy.

Inspired by ‘Forbidden Colors’ (1988) by Felix Gonzalez-Torres, the work explores how a lot of information is currently censored on social media. To get around this censorship, people use symbols and images to communicate. An example of this is the shape of the triangle, which has become a symbol to represent Palestine. The artwork uses colour and shape to convey a message of resistance and identity without words. It consists of 21 A3 RISO prints that together form a powerful whole.

Kinda Ghannoum is a Syrian-Polish graphic designer. She studied architecture at Damascus University and Graphic Design at Sint Lucas Antwerp. Her work focuses on developing brand identities, typography and graphic research. Arabic fonts, patterns and ornaments are a major source of inspiration in this regard.

Topo Copy is an ‘open lab research centre’ for risoprint, zines, paper, copy, ink and art ... with a self-publishing label & library, activities such as workshops, lectures, interventions and exhibitions.... We have an open studio with machines for creation with ink and paper.

After the festival ended, the work was temporarily given a new home in the VIERNULVIER Café, where it can be viewed until July 2025. At our ticket counter, you can put together your own unique work by buying several A3s. All proceeds from the sale will go to the Ghassan Abu Sittah Children's Fund and World Central Kitchen, which provide vital assistance to Palestinian children and families on the ground.

Arts Centre VIERNULVIER works in various ways to raise awareness about the situation in Gaza and Palestine. Since 7 October 2024, we have been projecting the number of people killed in Gaza on the side wall of De Vooruit every day. An artwork by Palestinian artist Hamza Abu Ayyash can be seen on the façade (until August 2025).
