CITY ATELIER

The STADSATELIER of VIERNULVIER supports artists, collectives and partner organisations that have a strong social commitment. Human interaction and cocreation are the main artistic strategies here. The practices are also transformative: they encourage critical reflection and offer new perspectives.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the STADSATELIER, we are releasing a publication that looks back as well as forward. This publication consists of a cartopological map and a field guide: the map aims to make the STADSATELIER visible in a subjective, poetic way; the field guide contains texts that offer an insight into the STADSATELIER event. We also collected some DIY (do it yourself) and DIT (do it together) contributions from artists and partner organisations. Get inspired by it and get started yourself!

The publication is available in Dutch and English at VIERNULVIER's Ticket Desk.

You can read the publication online here.

“Leave the door open for the unknown. The door into the dark. That’s where the most important things come from, where you yourself come from and where you will go.”

Rebecca Solnit - ‘A field guide to getting lost’

The CITY ATELIER at work

We are preparing for a new edition of OPENBARE WERKEN. Together with partners Manoeuvre, CAMPUSatelier, de Koer, Jong Gewei, Kunsthal Gent, LUCA School of Arts & KASK & Conservatorium, we will present projects in the public space of Ghent and beyond from May 10 to 18, 2025. The themes we are working around are kinship and envisioning new forms of public space.

We are supporting two projects that will culminate in a presentation during the festival next year: 'Everything Under' by Mark Požlep and 'Midnight Marshes' by Jennie Moran, Keir Vine, Malaika Cunningham, and Zoe Laureen Palmer.

Finally, there is 'International Stomachs' which is part of the City Studio. Initiated by de Koer, this collective research platform focuses on food and waterways. Together with Future Farmers, De Goedinge, CAMPUSatelier, VIERNULVIER, City of Ghent, and local residents, we are launching a jetty near the Watersportbaan. Join us for the opening during the 'Aan Wal!' festival weekend on September 14 and 15 at Aan de Bocht. The program will be available online soon.

An inspiring work for the Tot In De Stad!-network that organises Openbare Werken is the Fair Kin Arts Almanac developed by State of the Arts.
